This body of work began as an exploration into the dynamics of negative space as defined by figurative groupings. Work on these pieces began in earnest as the Covid Curtain fell and I found myself quarantined at my studio in Joshua Tree, Ca. For me, negative space has always elicited a kind of longing; a loneliness inherent in the separation of form. As the pandemic progressed, negative space became a metaphor for social distance and the withdrawal of physical intimacy in our day-to-day lives.

The Smalter Gallery is an art gallery on West 39th Street in Kansas City that is a home for both established and emerging artists.
