Smalter Gallery Expands, Now Curating Apex Artspace.
Smalter Gallery has expanded our reach, and we are now proudly curating Apex Artspace! We have entered into an agreement with the wonderful folks at Crossroads Dentistry, which houses the gallery, and we’ll be curating ongoing exhibits and hosting events at the space in the future. This curated space will be in addition to our main gallery on W 39th.

Owner and Curator of Smalter Gallery, Lee Smalter, was a special guest on the November 19, 2025 edition of ARTSPEAK RADIO. ARTSPEAK RADIO is a live radio show on 90.1 FM KKFI Kansas City Community Radio hosted by Maria Vasquez Boyd, discussing the KC visual and literary arts scene.

Owner and curator of The Smalter Gallery, Lee Smalter, recently spoke at The Oak Hall Soirée, a monthly arts gathering at Oak Hall Condominiums. Lee presented photographs and stories of the building renovations that ultimately created The Smalter Gallery.
They discussed how the support and gratitude of artists and visitors helped them to overcome their own imposter syndrome. Lee also delved into how the gallery “gained the trust of those who have been left behind” as they built an accessible, community-focused art gallery.
