Queer Narratives is an exhibition featuring work by queer artists living and working in and around Kansas City. Organized by No Divide KC (a 501(c)3 non-profit organization), Queer Narratives highlights work that emerges from artists who navigate the world through queer lived experience.
Join us Friday, July 17th, at Smalter Gallery for the opening night of Queer Narratives 2026. Admission is free / donate what you can.
From the Organizers:
This is our annual visual arts reunion commemorating seven years of bringing queer artists to the center of the stage and honoring the art that emerges when creators navigate the world through queer lived experiences.
This year you'll experience:
Western European medieval imagery and printmaking reimagined through a trans lens.
Hand-tufted domestic rugs transforming familiar household objects into soft, intimate sanctuaries.
Grotesque yet delicate sculptural forms that directly reclaim physical autonomy and challenge mainstream standards of desire.
Layered oils and watercolors processing themes of conversion therapy survival, emotional states of "becoming," and dreamscapes that verbalize the intangible.
DJ Jon Sabillón will be spinning a live set
Light refreshments will be available.
The reception runs from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Feel free to drop in, stay for a drink, or hang out for the full duration.
Admission is entirely free/donation-based, but claiming an RSVP ticket helps our team track numbers for the gallery space.
